Over Voltage Protection - Don't Let Your Charge Pump Explode
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
In this video, we go over a circuit designed to protect your pedal from over-voltage called a crowbar circuit. This doesn't allow voltages above 9V to pass, which may be necessary when trying to protect a charge pump IC. To do this, we use a 9.1V Zener Diode and an SCR. Not that anyone will see this, but how do you get a specific Q? (Not just whatever it ends up being) The equations for both Q and frequency use the same resistors and capacitors. So if you change them to reach a certain Q, it changes the frequency! Is there a different way to dial in the Q you want without messing with the specified frequency?

Wow! I have a Deluxe Electric Mistress, at some point it started to get a clock noise, so I opened it and foud 3 trimpots and started to adjust them by ear until that noise disappeared and works perfectly. I thought "well, I can't broke it more, let's try this by ear" and it worked. Just intuition.

I have this amp, bought 2 of them. They great amps, you can get great tone from them. Recording them is near impossible though, I've found best results with those dual Behringer condersor mics at low volume... Great to see they still in service, great to play with but times have changed it all electronic now....

Great explanation! I have a degree in electronics from 30 years ago😂 so I just started building pedals and wasn't sure why they used a stereo input until I saw a fuzzface with only battery for power then i finally figured it was used as a switch to complete the circuit 👍

Every data sheet I look at shows a huge increase in hFE when the current is increased. I have an atlas 55 tester that only tests at 2.5ma, most pedal builds cite an ideal hFE at 5.0ma and I never trust my measurements because of the difference in current. This is the first time I have heard/seen that there isn’t a large increase in hFE from 2.5ma-5.0ma. Should I assume I am closer than I think when measuring at 2.5ma? How would you handle this? Sell my DCA55 and buy a DCA75?lol

If I'm ever looking for a video on a new area or aspect of the universe that is pedal build and design, I'll always watch yours before going any further. I find them perfect for grasping a basic understanding of new concepts. It sits in what I call the "Goldilocks" zone of information; Not too heavy, not too lite, just right. Works well with my, "OK, hurt me, but just a little" attitude towards life 😛 Being a fellow Australian help, too...

Well since I've been doing this pretty much since pedals first came on the market. Here's one thing that I've noticed if you buy cheap ass pedals like the ones on Amazon no name garbage .... That also means you're more than most likely buying generic cables as well. If you stick to the mid-grade stuff you'll be fine. The high grade stuff you'll be even better. Cheap ass pedals cheap ass chords with a cheap ass power supply. Guess what you're going to sound like a cheap ass 6th grader .🤨 And that's fine if that's what works for you. But don't be posting any videos anywhere and acting like you are the shit. Because 99% of the videos that most people post of them playing guitar and whatnot. Sounds like garbage. Just being honest if you can't handle it... you know what you can do.
